Mechanical Engineering Intern
Stony Brook University
I conducted research in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the State University of New York at Stony Brook under the supervision of Dr. Shikui Chen in 2017. The research focused on designing a lighter bulletproof vest using topology optimization and Negative Poisson's Ratio. I created Negative Poisson's Ratio Structures using Computer Aided Design (PTC Creo Parametrics) and tested them using the COMSOL Multiphysics Software. I submitted this paper to Siemens Science Competition and Regeneron Science Talent Search.
Skills Obtained:
- CAD-ing using the PTC Creo Software
- Running simulations on CAD pieces using COMSOL
- Understanding topology optimization and Negative Poisson's Ratio
- Creating an entire research project independently
- Presenting my findings
- Writing a research paper
- Learning software without an instructor
